Module 3. Challenging Situations
Objectives for this Module
Exploring the situations which doctors commonly find personally challenging. Issues which are upsetting, such as child protection and violence. Issues which challenge personal ideas of illness behaviour such as anxiety and addiction. Situations which are embarrassing such as patient dependency or consultations with explicit sexual content.
January 15th (2020) - Complete Consultation
January 22nd - Dementia and Loss of Autonomy
How to diagnose, when to refer, how to intensively treat and managing the family. Advanced Directives and ethical issues. This sessions is being run in conjuction with
members of the local mental health team.
January 29th - Palliative Care
Managing patients with end of life conditions. What local resources are available, how can patients and families best be supported. How to ensure patients die in a place of their choosing, comfortably and with dignity. With MacMillan nurses.
February 5th - PRIME PART 1
First of a two part course on basic teaching skills to enable you to supervise medical students in practice after qualification.
February 12th - CSA Break
February 19th - HALF TERM
February 26th - CSA BREAK
